Set in the quiet neighborhood of Prahladnagar, Ahmedabad, this 500-square-yard residence is designed as a multi-generational home that reflects the family’s love for art, nature, and togetherness. With one of the sons being a renowned filmmaker, his artistic sensibilities inspired the house’s play of light, frames, and open spaces.
The design unfolds around a staggered double-height volume, visually connecting all levels while ensuring natural ventilation through strategically placed escape windows. A mature tree on-site was embraced rather than removed, becoming a living element of the façade that harmonizes architecture with landscape.
Unlike typical basements, the lower level is bright and versatile, featuring a study, home office, and a multi-purpose hall opening into a courtyard. This hall also serves as a creative space for film screenings and workshops.
Materiality plays a central role—Kota stone floors, natural wood, and exposed brick and concrete walls embody the honesty and durability of generational homes. The result is a residence that balances functionality with poetry, offering a retreat that is at once personal, sustainable, and timeless.
